Cataphora Analytics and the Arab Spring
The ‘Arab Spring’ is the first in a new series of demonstrations of our technology. Our real-world work inevitably involves large and complex Big Data. Just as we were looking for a suitable example that could be condensed into a short video, we met Esra’a Al Shafei at a conference. She has been called one of the 17 “bravest bloggers” in the world and was there to accept an award, one of many she has received for her role in promoting democracy and free speech in the Middle East.
With a shoestring website operation in a village in Bahrain, Esra’a has attained an impressive level of influence, perhaps has even helped change the world. But to what extent? What was her reach? We felt sure that using some of our technology to detect the spread of influence of Esra’a's work would make a compelling story. We hope you agree.
