In honor of Valentine’s Day, we thought it would be fun to reveal the results from our Digital Mirror Love Life survey! For those of you who didn’t participate, don’t worry. You’re still welcome to fill out the survey since we’re not taking it down just yet. In the meantime, we’ll fill you in on its intent. The Love Life survey aims to get a feel for how different types of people communicate in the digital world and more specifically, how our increasing dependence on technology impacts our romantic relationships (for better or worse).
Let’s assume you’re taking your special someone out for a romantic dinner tonight, perhaps sharing a celebratory bottle of wine and splurging on a chocolate soufflé. Will you be “checking in” via Foursquare, texting at the dinner table, and emailing your boss in between bites? Now, take a moment to think about how this behavior might affect the overall mood of the evening. We invite you to take a look at the results in this infographic and ask yourself, how do you measure up to others?
While the results can be interpreted differently by different people, here’s the Cataphora takeaway as it relates to Valentine’s Day: go ahead and take a technology sabbatical for the night. The 24/7 connectivity we’ve grown accustomed to isn’t likely going to slow down anytime soon, so put your various technological devices away for the evening (though we approve of a camera to capture the moment!), and just enjoy the company of your special someone. Your iPhone will still be there buzzing away tomorrow morning, we assure you.
